Aziz Mirza

While studying for a degree in Human Geography Aziz developed a passion for manipulating data and a desire to undertake practical, rather than academic, research. After graduating he spent four years working for the social services department of Buckinghamshire County Council – where he carried out research into projects ranging from straight forward statistical number-crunching exercises to highly sensitive research into why foster placements had broken down.
This was followed by a posting as Research Manager at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), where he managed the transformation of the institute's research role from pure data collection (the “Statistics Department”) into a more forward-looking “Market Research Unit”. Highlights were producing Market Opportunities for Architects which the Architects Journal called “the best report of its kind ever to emerge from Portland Place”; and the RIBA's Information Pack for Architects on working in Europe.
